My Engineengineering-Story: More than 140 days without my Jaguar

To be honest, I curse the day that I came across engineengineering.co.uk.

Just to give you an idea what engineengineering is promising: You can browse any car and model and you will find something like this:

"than You will be happy to know that currently we stock all .... Engines models. We will provide You with...."

Whatever brand of car you look for, Engineengineering assert that they have the fitting engine

At first, I was happy that they offered a reconditioned engine for my Jaguar (for about 500 € less than other quotaions I got) and so I wrote on Sept. 2nd:

After I had already bought and sent back an engine which did not fit, Engineengineering suggested to pick up my engine first. To make - if necassary - minor adjustments to their eingine, to make sure that it will fit.

Delay with replying, I should have heard the alarm-bells ring, but did not...

So I paid  the money and on Sept. 19th they wrote:

so, my engine was picked up and according to engineengineering website I could expect to get the ordered engine within 2 weeks (giving an allowance to ship to Germany and to make necessary adjustments )

And then: Waiting and not one word from Engineengineering

I got nervous and on October 8., three weeks later I wrote: (because I business-wise need my car, I rented another one on a weekly basis)

The reply from Oct 10th was encouraging:

Next week - OK, longer than I expected, but I was looking forward to have my car on the road again by the end of October. ..

At that time I still believed that they would make adjustments on the engine that I had bought.

(Before all that I had made enquiries with other recon-companies in Germany whether it would be possible to repair my engine. Impossible I was told because Jaguar would not sell oversize pistons and bearings...)

On October 22nd (six weeks after they had picked up my engine) I phoned  and then I was informed that they have started to repair my engine. Without asking for my consent, without telling me that this could take weeks.

And that's what they promise on their web-site

The Company will contact the customer before proceeding. Where these parts are either, not available from stock, or replacement is declined by the customer, then recommendations may be made for these parts to be replaced by the customer at the earliest opportunity.

I had meanwhile paid 2100€ for the rented car (350 € a week)

The fun-thing about it is that in one e-mail they assured me that they want their customers to be happy!

Oh boy it makes me really happy to wait (without having the faintest idea how long), pay money for a replacement car, pay money for the insurance for a car standing in a garage and then to read this:

To make a long story short: I have phoned and e-mailed, I have set deadlines. But since I had already paid for a job I didn't want them to do, they obviously don't care a damn. Engineengineering never made any efford to keep me up to date, They only reacted on my mails and phone calls.

That is what I got November 2nd after another phone-call from my side:

Not 6 weeks and - how generous - they don't charge extra money. (As I had said: I had bought a full-working engine in a "like-new-condition". I wonder why they even mention any extra money)

On December 22nd (15 weeks after I "bought" a reconditioned engine, and 7 weeks after the above) and after another deadline that I have set telling that I would lay a criminal charge to their local Court against enineengineering for suspected fraud they reacted:

Frustrating that is the only thing they can think of. That I have meanwhile spent more than 5000€ for the car rental seems to be a nothing to enineengineering,

January 28: Now it is more than five weeks ago that I got the information above. Until now engineengineering had explained the intolerable delay with the fact that they still wait for neccessary parts. These have meanwhile arrived but instead of dealing my case with highest priority, I still have to wait another two or three weeks as I was told on the phone today. They are fully booked out...

February 4: The first good news: I got a phonecall that the engine is ready and was dispatched the same day. (44 days after the parts that have caused the delay have arrived) OK, I thought, so it should be at my garage by Wednesday or Thursday. There they have scheduled the reassembly-job for next week. But a new time of waiting started. Engineengineering had obviously decided for the cheapest carrier and slowest way of transportation. (Horse and cart?) So, their promise

If You buy an engine or part before 11am, it will be dispatched the same day!

is not really worth much...

February 18: My garage phoned: The engine has finally arrived. It looks good - will it run fine? We will see

Summary: For me Engine-Engineering's heighhandedness was an expensive adventure.

Should you consider to buy an engine from Engineengineering or decide to have your engine reconditioned : It might turn out to be a time-consuming and cost-intensive affair.

My advice: check First choice to get offers from selected dealers
